I have a 16 ft aluminium boat with a 50 hp yamaha outboard , when we have more than 2 people in the boat and we are just starting off, the motor won't get more than 3000 rpm's and the boat won't get on the plane, if we shift the load so that 1 or 2 people go to the front , than we plane out and the motor will get up to about 4800 rpm.. This is supprisingly easy to fix. last year i bought a 2009 legend xcaliber with a merc 115 hp 4-stroke, and was amazed at how difficult it was to get the boat to plane, even with only a couple people in it. it would take 15-20 secs, but once on plane it ran like a top..
